Organization Coaching

Organization problems tend to be complex. To meet the complexity challenge and solve the problem, leaders need to meet together, put their heads together, wrestle down the problem and solve it.  The kinds of organizational challenges and problems I work with are usually complex, requiring the diverse thinking that only occurs in a group of leaders.

Examples of organization problems that I’ve coached organizations through are:

  • Determining the proper mix of natural gas condensate to crude oil shipped in a pipeline

  • Increasing the occupancy rate of a hotel/casino

  • Creating a flat rate overhead formula for splitting the cost oil field production between three major oil production companies.

  • Developing and implementing a strategic plan for guiding the growth of a city

  • Redesigning an organization to effectively develop and market medical devices

  • Finding the cause of faulty APU on a 747-400 passenger jet

Organizations I’ve been asked to help solve intractable problems, tend to solve those problems for both the short and long term.

How do I work with you?

To ensure success, the design of the conference must fit the goal.  My 40+ years of experience in creating conference designs has given me a wealth of designs that I can pull from to create the foundation for a successful conference.

To ensure a problem-solving group works well together, one must manage both the problem-solving process AND the group interpersonal process.  My training in psychology, especially in knowing how groups become effective, ensures a successful result for the client.

My value add is giving leadership groups the tools, coaching and confidence, to create and implement a solution.

It begins with a conversation

In order for the conference to be successful I need to understand your need.  There will be several conversations to ensure I’m understanding correctly:

  • What is the issue?  What is the challenge?

  • How long have you had this challenge?

  • What do you want the solution to accomplish?

  • What does success look like?

I then create a design

The design could range from a half day to three days, depending on the size of the group and the complexity of the challenge.  I’ve worked with a variety of challenges over the years, from determining the cause of 747 engine failure to improving the time to market of product development teams. All of my designs are predicated on the concept of people support what they help create.  If people who are affected by the solution are not a part of its development, then the success of implementation is dramatically decreased.

I help you select the conference attendees

I provide selection guidelines for helping you determine who are the right leaders to be in the conference.

I train leaders

There are times where a sub-set of selected leaders will be required to work with small teams.  In those instances, I provide training for the leaders to facilitate a small group in a problem-solving effort.

I run the conference

If I run it, then you can focus on the issue at hand:  developing an implementable solution to the challenge.  When I run the conference, I pay attention to several things:

  • How is the group doing in accomplishing the task?  Are they bored or energized?  Are they focused or disengaged?  Are they challenged or over-whelmed?

  • Is the design enabling the group to solve the problem?  If not, how do I change it “in-the-moment” to ensure success is achieved?
